I visited The Huntington Gardens last weekend for maybe my three hundredth time. It is by my favorite place on earth. I find it to be the most relaxing and inspiring location.
I saw an exhibit at The Huntington about Charles Rohlfs, which displayed an array of magnificent and stunning furniture pieces he created. However, strangely enough I found that the most interesting segment of the show had hardly to do with Charles Rohlfs but rather his wife.
His wife Anna Katharine Green was a major crime novelist between 1878 and 1923. Her detective novels made a huge impact on crime stories during that time period as well as influenced crime novels today. In fact her characters, Ebenezer Gryce and Amelia Butterworth, helped Conan Doyle create the famous Shelock Holmes. The exhibit held a few of her books that I happily photographed.
The Huntington Gardens are just so beautiful. I recommend that anyone who lives in LA or comes to visit should definitely tour the Huntington property because it is worth the while.
